Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (KB110806) failed

Ivan Versluis December 27th, 2007

Last year Microsoft released their Service Pack 1 for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 (KB110806). For some reason the Service Pack 1 did not install and generated  a lot of error messages in the system eventlog or displays the illustrated screenshot below. In my case the SP1 update failed and the Windows Update Agent (Automatic updates) retried to reinstall constantly; because the failed  the production Microsoft SQL Server 2005 server failed to start the “SQL Server Agent” service which is depending on the .NET Framework many of the scheduled jobs failed to run.

Automatic Updates - Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (KB110806) were not installed.

Screenshot 1 - Automatic Updates - Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (KB110806) were not installed.

This behavior may also occur with:

  • Autodesk Autocad 2008
  • Quickbooks 2008
  • Backup Exec
  • Any other application depending on .NET Framework

If you are a novice user than read my “User guide” below how to remove the failed installation of Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (KB110806) with “Windows Installer CleanUp Utility”.

I start to troubleshoot and hopefully these steps will help you fixing your installations.

Windows Live Writer and uploading pictures to Wordpress

Ivan Versluis December 19th, 2007

For the first time I get this strange error below and I have no clue why suddenly the pictures I included in Windows Live Writer ended with “Image Upload Not Supported by Weblog” message.

I did some reach on google and found on post @ http://wordpress.org/support/topic/102352 where this topic was discussed. For me not really satisfying to change the php code. I configured the FTP account setting and tried to save the post again. Lucky me this worked out.

Xbox 360 and steaming my video files divx/xvid with Nero 8!

Ivan Versluis December 19th, 2007

xbox I am so existed this evening that I will take couple of minutes and write down my 1 hour experience with Xbox360 and Nero 8 suite. Beginning of april 2006 I was proud owner of the new Microsoft’s gaming console. I had bad experience with all my pc-games and hundreds of those never played; my decision was to stick with only one game. I bought Perfect Zero fps and since than they game sitting in my console. Couple times I tried to hook up my video content, but never succeed to stream any other content than wmv and dvd into the console; even Windows Media Center on Vista did not play anything than wmv.

Two months ago I configured my new Q6600 system and installed the eval Nero 8 suite of tools. After reading the some notes about steaming the media to Xbox360 or Playstation3 I though let’s give a try.

I configured Nero Scout and indexed the files. In the Internet Services option you can insert you favorite RSS feed casts like webradio, video, audio and image.

Than opened Nero MediaHome and started the server.

Powered the Xbox360 console and went to Media tab. Opened Video and I had some issues with getting the computer name being listed there. I was not able to delete the old computer which Xbox saw couple weeks ago and resolved the issue by starting my Windows XP machine and start sharing media in Windows Media Player 11. After the XP machine was on the network; xbox saw my Q6600 system with Nero MediaHome content. Wired but it worked out.

I started to browse the directories and opened 5 different types of wmv, divx and xvid files. All of those worked without any problem. It takes 5 to 10 seconds to buffer the file and after that the content is being streamed without any problem.

Right now I can watch my favorite geek show DL.tv directly without first copying the files to a USB disk and connecting that to my home theater usb host. It is just working.

These 4 files were manually downloaded by me, but DL.tv has a rss feed and I will tryout to hook that xml file info the Nero Scout. Couple other pics:

Are you tired to get the famous codec error on your Xbox360 console? If yes than go to Nero website and download the binaries. Some people complain Nero has become a suite off fancy tools, but having this Nero MediaHome feature there on your LAN is just something you don’t want to miss anymore.

Office 2007 SP1 is out! and Updating my Office 2007 SVS layer

Ivan Versluis December 14th, 2007

During my journey how to export the SVS application virtualization layers I deleted the C:\MSOCache directory of my Office 2007 Enterprise layer to reduce the amount of space required on my other virtual machine guests. I tried to import this layer into a Windows Server 2003 and found out that the office is requiring me to have the local source installation files. I created this layer at my work and did not have access to those file at this moment. I decided to recreate and fine tune the Office 2007 layer.

I installed Office 2007 Enterprise with all default options, deactivated the layer and than run the option Update Layer (CRTL-U in the SVS admin console); select the office layer and browse to the SP1 file of Office 2007 which I download from here.

Click here to download Office 2007 SP1 at Microsoft

Select the Office 2007 package and click next.

Computer Account SID hell with virtual machines guests and gsgetsid.exe and NewSid.exe howto

Ivan Versluis December 14th, 2007

Today I configured new VMWare team and installed one domain controller and one other server as file server. I used my masterbuild server image of Win2k3 EE R2 and both images run the sysprep.exe routine. After the dc was setup to run AD and DNS I joined the second guest machine on the domain. The domain join on the second machine worked fine.

I reboot and tried to logon with a domain account and than with the domain admin. Both accounts generated the Logon Message below.

The system cannot log you on due the following error:

The name or security ID (SID) of the domain specified is inconsistent with the trust information for that domain.

Please try again or consult your system administrator.

I logged on with the local administrator account and saw the event id 5516 Netlogon error as shown below.

Windows Server 2008 Release Candidate 1 (RC1) is Live!

Ivan Versluis December 10th, 2007

Starting new work week I have received new email from msftconn@microsoft.com on the Windows Server 2008 RC1. I download the 4.3 GB iso images and will install both of them into VMWare Workstation 6 guests. I got a weird idea to try to get the WVS hypervisor installed on VMWare Workstation and will try it out ;-).

We are pleased to announce the release of Windows Server 2008 Release Candidate 1! This milestone release represents significant progress incorporating the feedback we received from you. We ask that you please install this build as soon as possible and provide feedback. As we approach RTM, now is the time more than ever to find and report issues and give us the best chance to incorporate your feedback into the product. This release is available as a download only. The images posted are DVD images and the recommended approach is to download and burn a DVD appropriate for your hardware.

Go to https://connect.microsoft.com and download the bits.
