WordPress: Release 2.8
For three weeks, I had been planning to install WordPress 2.8. There are plenty of improvements in this release.
Highlights
- A new drag-and-drop widgets administration interface and new widgets API
- Syntax highlighting and function lookup built into plugin and theme editors
- Browse the theme directory and install themes from the administration area
- Arrange dashboard widgets in up to four columns
- Configure the number of items shown on management pages through Screen Options
- Support for time zones and automatic daylight saving time adjustment
- Support for the IIS 7.0 URL Rewrite Module
- Faster loading of admin pages via script compression and concatenation
It is good to see URL rewriting support for IIS 7.0 and further development in this area. These improvements make WordPress 2.8 an update I would recommend.

One feature I like after the 2.8 upgrade is searching for and installing plug-ins from the administration area. Previously, plug-ins had to be downloaded and uploaded manually.
