JeOS: Install mutt without an internet connection

I needed to install mutt on my JeOS virtual machine, which had no internet connectivity because it was behind an internal firewall. Mutt is a handy tool for scripting and sending file attachments. I wanted to use it to email myself MySQL database dumps.

Mutt is a small but very powerful text-based mail client for Unix operating systems. It is great for testing mail server setups and sending email messages via the command line. Read more.

Download and install the packages

Download the .deb files:

Copy the installation files and install them:

Shell2 lines
1
2
dpkg -i mutt_1.5.17+20080114-1ubuntu1_i386.deb
dpkg -i mutt-patched_1.5.17+20080114-1ubuntu1_i386.deb

I scheduled the following command to email me the MySQL dump:

Code1 line
1
echo 'Blog Name:Your mySQL Backup is attached' | mutt -a $DBNAME-backup-$DATE.sql.gz $EMAIL -s "$DBNAME-backup-$DATE database Backup"
