MinWin = Windows kernel ;-)

A minimal variation of the Windows kernel, known as MinWin, is being developed for use in Windows 7. The development work aims to split the Windows kernel into components and reduce its dependencies, identifying the minimum set of components needed for a self-contained kernel while reducing disk and memory usage.

MinWin takes up about 25 MB on disk and has a working set (memory usage) of 40 MB. It lacks a graphical user interface and uses a full-screen command-line interface. I found the presentation very interesting.
