Dell Wyse ThinOS: WNOS.ini configuration for an RDS Broker

Originally published

I had been troubleshooting a VDI RDS Broker configuration that did not open full screen after sign-in. The following configuration connects to the RDS Broker URL, selects the specified collection and opens the session automatically in full screen.

I use WNOS.ini together with a MAC-address-specific INI file to connect the thin client to a highly available RDS Broker infrastructure running Windows Server 2016 with an Azure SQL PaaS database. The configuration bypasses RD Gateway, which enforces Azure MFA two-factor authentication in my environment. I use RD Gateway for connections from the Internet.

Configuration notes

  • RDCollections="*": specifying an asterisk establishes an RDP session for any RDS collection available to the user. I disabled this because it caused multiple sessions to RD hosts.
  • TSGWenable=No: setting this to No bypasses RD Gateway. In my environment, I only want to use RD Gateway for connections from the Internet.
