Software deployment: Install PDFCreator with recorded setup options

Originally published Last updated 2 comments

PDFCreator is a free tool for creating PDF files from nearly any application. I used the following script to deploy it. Before writing the script, I recorded my setup options with the SAVEINF command-line parameter.

Requirements

Setup files

PDFCreator-1_2_0_setup.inf contains the setup defaults. The key setting here is Toolbar=0, which prevents the pdfforge Toolbar from being installed.

 [Setup] Lang=english Dir=C:\Program Files\PDFCreator Group=PDFCreator NoIcons=0 SetupType=custom Components=program,ghostscript,comsamples,helpfiles,helpfiles\english,languages,languages\english Tasks=desktopicon,desktopicon\common,winexplorer Printername=PDFCreator ServerInstallation=0 Win9xPrinterdriver=0 WinNtPrinterdriver=0 Win2k32bitPrinterdriver=0 Win2k64bitPrinterdriver=0 Toolbar=0

PDFCreator-1_2_0_setup.cmd includes the UpdateInterval registry setting under HKEY_CURRENT_USER. This is a user setting. Apply it through Default User or GPO Preferences to disable PDFCreator’s automatic updates for all users.

Code1 line

 PDFCreator-1_2_0_setup.exe /ForceInstall /VERYSILENT /NORESTART /LOADINF="PDFCreator-1_2_0_setup.inf" reg add "HKCU\Software\PDFCreator\Program" /v UpdateInterval /t REG_SZ /d 0 /f
