If you are managing Symantec LiveUpdate server and you sized your server diskspace on the save side than you may run into full disk space issues. Example below having the update running for some weeks: Well it happened once that disk size had 34MB left and Symantec was not updating for weeks… Today I created and scheduled a script which runs once a week and deletes all files older than 7 days. This script can be used for other files and is very useful to know about. Click here to read the page.

If you are managing a Windows Server 2003 file server than this add-on should be installed. Windows Server 2003 Access-based Enumeration makes visible only those files or folders that the user has the rights to access. When Access-based Enumeration is enabled, Windows will not display files or folders that the user does not have the rights to access. This download provides a GUI and a CLI that enables this feature. This is the first time I installed and used this tool myself. Easy to install and no reboot is required of the file server. It cleans the users view and we as system administrators have fewer “security audits” in our event viewers. Click here to download the MSI setup files.

Internet Explorer 8 is released to public. I installed recent beta’s of IE 8 and I had some problems with it. Before I installed IE 8 I run one test which I will share below. The result is promising . 10%+ less memory usage by IE 8 when comparing same websites opened in IE 7. I personally would suggest that everyone using Windows should upgrade Internet Explorer to version 8. Why should you upgrade? The new, improved Windows Internet Explorer 8 can help make your everyday browsing experiences – searching, communicating, shopping, reading news – easier, faster, and safer. Accelerators Enhanced navigation (Compatibility View, Enhanced Tabbed Browsing,Better Find On Page ,Smarter Address Bar, etc.) Increased performance Improved favorites and history management (Enhanced Favorites Bar, One Click Favorites, RSS feeds on Favorites bar) Instant search Web Slices IE 7.0 and 4 websites 73MB of Ram IE 8.0 and 4 websites Well my CSS and header is broken for Networknet.nl But running the 4 sites with IE 8 they consume 13MB less memory. I will fix my header Click here to download IE 8.
